The short answer
Valley Client does not sell your personal information, and does not share it for targeted or cross-context behavioural advertising. There is no opt-out form on this page because there is nothing to opt out of.
Some privacy laws (California's CCPA as amended by the CPRA, and similar laws in states such as Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas and Oregon) give you the right to tell a business to stop selling or sharing your personal information, and require that business to link to a page like this one.
We publish this page so you can see where we stand, and so you know how to use the other rights you have. What we do collect, and why, is set out in full in our Privacy Policy.
What “sell” and “share” mean here
These words are broader in privacy law than in everyday use, which is why the answer matters.
- Sell: disclosing personal information to a third party for money or for other valuable consideration. A trade of data for a service or a discount can count as a sale even though no money changes hands.
- Share: disclosing personal information to a third party for cross-context behavioural advertising: building a profile of you across other sites and apps in order to target advertising at you.
- Targeted advertising: advertising selected on the basis of personal data obtained from your activity across sites, apps or services that are not our own.
We do none of these three things. Passing data to a service provider that processes it only on our instructions (the company that hosts our servers, or the provider that takes your payment) is not a sale or a share under these laws, and is covered by a written agreement that stops them using your data for anything else.
Why there is nothing to opt out of
To be concrete about it, the Valley Client launcher, the client and this website do not contain any of the following:
- Advertising SDKs, ad networks or advertising pixels.
- Data-broker integrations, or any arrangement that passes your identifiers to an advertiser.
- Cross-site or cross-app tracking, and no profile of you built from activity outside our own Services.
- Advertising inside the client or the launcher.
- Any sale of account data, purchase history, Minecraft UUIDs or email addresses.
We are funded by Valley+ subscriptions and cosmetics, by people paying for the client, which is exactly what lets us leave advertising out of it.
Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track
Some browsers and extensions send an automated opt-out signal, such as Global Privacy Control (GPC) or the older Do Not Track header. Where a law treats such a signal as a valid opt-out request, we treat it as one.
In practice the signal changes nothing on our side, because we were not selling or sharing your personal information in the first place. You do not need to send a signal, install anything, or take any step to be opted out of a practice we do not have.
What we collect instead
Not selling data is not the same as collecting none. To run the Services we hold your account details, a record of what you bought, the settings and cosmetics applied to your character, and enough technical data to fix crashes and keep the servers up.
Each category, the reason for it, and how long we keep it is listed in the Privacy Policy; the table in its second chapter is the complete list.
The controls you do have
Because there is no advertising to switch off, your controls are about the data we hold rather than who we hand it to:
- Ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct anything that is wrong.
- Ask us to delete your data, or close your account entirely.
- Decline optional analytics wherever we ask for consent, and withdraw that consent later.
- Clear your browser storage to remove the theme preference this site keeps locally. It is never sent to us.
None of these will cost you access to the Services or change what you pay. See the chapter on non-discrimination below.
How to make a request
Email privacy@valleyclient.com from the address on your account, or contact us through our support page. Tell us which right you want to use and, if it helps, which data you mean; a specific request is faster to answer than a general one.
We answer within 45 days where a US state law applies, and within one month under the GDPR. If a request is complex we may extend that once, and we will tell you why before we do.
There is no charge, and you do not need an account with us to ask a question about this page.
Authorised agents
You may appoint someone, a person or a business, to make a privacy request on your behalf. Send us written permission signed by you, and we will deal with your agent as we would with you.
We may still contact you directly to confirm that you gave that permission, and to verify your identity before we act. That step exists to stop somebody using these rights to reach your data.
How we verify a request
Before we hand over or delete personal data, we need reasonable confidence that the request is really yours. Normally that means replying from the email address on the account, and sometimes confirming a detail we already hold, such as the Minecraft username linked to it.
We will never ask you for your Microsoft or Minecraft password, and we will never ask for payment details, in order to verify a request. We use what you send us for verification only, and delete it afterwards.
No discrimination
We will not deny you the Services, charge you a different price, give you a lower quality of service, or suggest that we might, because you exercised a privacy right.
If a request means we have to delete data the Services genuinely need (your account, for instance), we will tell you what the consequence is before we act, so that you can decide.
If this ever changes
We have no plan to sell or share personal information, or to introduce targeted advertising. If that ever changed, we would not do it quietly: this page would be replaced with a working opt-out, our Privacy Policy would be updated first, and we would tell you in the launcher, by email or in our Discord before any such processing began.
Where the law requires consent rather than an opt-out, as it does for most such processing in the EEA and the UK, we would ask you first, and a refusal would cost you nothing.
Contact us
Questions about this notice, or about anything in it, can go to privacy@valleyclient.com. For help with the client itself, our support page and our Discord will get you an answer faster.
If you are not satisfied with our answer, you may complain to your state Attorney General, or, in the EEA and the UK, to your data protection authority. In Denmark that is Datatilsynet.
